Opera 6 Mail Dump

I was stuck using Opera 6 for a long time as my PC wasn\'t powerful to run subsequent versions. I used Opera 6 as my mail client and was frustrated by the lack of facilities to export the email from O6 into a standard format which I could read using other mail clients. For this reason I started snooping around the mail storage files and devised this little program to export the contents of one of your O6 mail folders into Outlook Express readable mail files.

This thing is pretty crude. It does not hold your hand at all, there is no interface and no configuration, but it works! I am putting this up here in the hope it might help someone out there one day. Here are the files:

• Executable
• Visual Studio Project (v6)

To run this bad boy you need to create the following folders your pc:

• c:\opermail
• c:\opermail\dump

You then need to locate the Opera mail folder you want to convert. They should be stored under you opera profile as .mbs files somewhere. Then copy your opera6 .mbs file into the operamail folder, rename it to in.mbs and run the executable. This will convert all the emails in the .mbs file into a load of .eml files and place them in the dump folder. These files are basically raw emails and can be opened in Outlook Express by double clicking or if you like looking at email headers you can open them straight into a text editor for some hot Received-From-For action!

This might crash, it might kill your pc, it might give you spots or even make your friends ostracise you, but it might just work!
